Scope:

There are "moving parts" between the two combined parts of machinery products, in which the friction generated in these parts not only deteriorates the driving performance, but also leads to a large energy loss. Reduction of friction has been the ultimate issue of mankind since its history. Recently, tribology, which is investigating the low friction, low wear and low surface damage of mechanical parts, has been attracted attention. Sliding parts developed in the field of mechanical engineering are mainly composed of high hardness materials, but soft materials such as condensed polymer brushes, swollen gels, and polymeric porous materials show also the characteristics of low friction. In this symposium, we would like to discuss the surface treatment by soft materials, their application to low friction material, and the development to smart tribology with additional functions.

Topics:

1. Soft material (polymer brush, gel, polymeric porous materials, etc.)
2. Functional coating
3. Low frinction material
4. Tribology
