Scope:

Thermoelectric energy conversion is a technology that directly converts heat into electricity and vice versa through the thermoelectric phenomena in solids. This technology has recently attracted renewed interest owing to the pressing needs for new electricity resource together with carbon-dioxide reduction. This symposium features materials for direct thermal-to-electric energy conversion, and solid-state refrigeration. The primary focus will be on novel materials in the fields of thermoelectrics, thermionics, and thermophotovoltaics. The symposium will be designed to emphasize the multidisciplinary nature among materials science, physics, chemistry, and engineering, and will also aim to center the discussion on new directions beyond the conventional design rules. Thus, exotic materials and phenomena related to good thermoelectrics will be welcomed as well as high-performance thermoelectric materials.

Topics:

Topics to be addressed include (but are not limited to):

  • High-performance thermoelectric materials
  • Theoretical guidance to high-efficient thermoelectric energy conversion
  • Nano-structured bulk materials
  • Organic thermoelectrics
  • Thin films, superlattices and nanowires
  • Thermal transport in exotic materials
  • High-temperature heat-resistant materials
  • Large thermopower materials
  • Thermionic and other nonequilibrium effects
  • Spin-Seebeck effects and other thermo-magnetic effects
  • Thermophotovoltaics and other photo-thermal effects
