Advanced Technologies for Reconstructed and Regenerated Bone, Cartilage and Osteochondral Tissues Based on Bionic Design

Organizers:

Scope:

With the progress of a super-aged society in Japan, the number of patients with osteoarthritis is increasing, and enormous pain and loss of motor skills can be caused by this disease. As a result, the number of artificial joint replacement has been rapidly rising in recent years. In order to minimize both the physical and mental burden on patients, artificial joint replacement has come to provide several choices according to the severity of the disease, such as transposing a part of the joint rather than replacing the whole joint with an artificial joint. In the case of osteotomy, the regenerate of a new cartilage surface (organization) is expected by the change of the principal axis of the joint movement if normal articular surface is left. However, the application methods, effects, and risks of the respective techniques are still at the research-and-development stage in terms of method selection.
